Our highly experienced Training and Deployment Manager (Rotarian and DART) Ed Cox is on his way back to the Philippines via Egypt, where he is attending a Conference organised by Rotarians who are looking to establish Disaster Aid Egypt.
He is addressing them in two sessions, one on disaster response, and the other on the setting up of an Egyptian partner.
Ed is then moving on to the Philippines to assess the current situation. He was there last year for many weeks following the earthquake and then the Typhoon, working side by side with the local people rebuilding their lives.
Ed Cox will attend the Rotary Club of Metro Iloilo and assist with the water project there, and then visit our friends at the Balay Mindanaw Foundation. He will pursue how we can continue working more effectively with that highly regarded local NGO, particularly seeking their guidance to establish the viability and best ways to rebuild another 1,000 homes.
We look forward with much interest to Ed Cox's updates from the Philippines when he revisits the ongoing efforts following the "deadliest Typhoon on record in that country" that killed over 6,000 people and destroyed property and infrastructure on a massive, and to us, an unimaginable scale.
